Siri Fort

Alauddin Khilji was the second ruler of the Khilji dynasty in the Delhi Sultanate. Alauddin Khilji ruled during the years, 1290-1316. Alauddin Khilji constructed the Siri Fort during 1297-1307. The city of Siri evolved around the fort. The water for the city was supplied from the Hauz Khas. The objective of the fort was to protect the empire from Mongol attacks. Siri is also known as the second city of Delhi, the first being the Lal Kot and Qila Rai Pithora.

At present, we can the ruins of the walls of the Siri Fort in areas near the Siri Fort Auditorium and Shahpur Jat in New Delhi.

Mohammadwali Mosque

Mohammadwali Mosque is located close to the Siri Fort wall near the Auditorium. The mosque is believed to have been constructed during the Lodi period (1451-1526).

Tohfewala Gumbad Mosque

Tohfewala Gumbad Mosque is one of the surviving monuments of the Siri Fort. It is located in a large enclosure in Shahpur Jat.

Lal Gumbad

Lal Gumbad is located in Malviya Nagar. Lal Gumbad is the tomb of Shaikh Kabiru’d-Din Auliya, a Sufi Saint. It was constructed sometime around the year 1397.
